Nampa firefighters responded to an apartment fire at the Birches complex on Franklin Boulevard Wednesday evening.
Nampa Deputy Fire Chief Doug Strosnider said a cooking grease fire ignited on a stove in a ground-level apartment at 7:27 p.m. A man in the apartment attempted to carry the flaming pan to the sink and dropped it, Strosnider said.
A single sprinkler head activated and extinguished the flames before crews arrived on scene.
Strosnider said the incident is testament to the importance of sprinkler systems, which in this case prevented what could have been a serious fire from causing significant damage or spreading to surrounding apartments.
The man was transported for treatment of burns, Strosnider said. He was unsure of the extent of the injuries.
